Why do I rush all the time? (Even When There’s No Reason To)

The other day, I noticed something strange.
I was brushing my teeth.
And I was rushing.
There was nowhere to go.
Nothing urgent was waiting.
Still, I was doing it quickly—like I needed to finish it.

That’s when it hit me.
I don’t rush because I have to.
I rush because I’m used to it.
It’s become automatic.
Walking fast.
Eating fast.
Thinking fast.
Even relaxing… fast.
As if every moment is just something to get through.
But get through to what?
The next thing?
And then the next?
There’s always a next.
And in that cycle, something quiet gets lost—
the experience itself.
We think rushing saves time.
But it doesn’t.
It just removes us from the moment we’re in.
You don’t feel your food.
You don’t notice your surroundings.
You don’t even notice yourself.
You’re just moving.
Constantly.
That day, I slowed down—just a little.
Not in a dramatic way.
Just… consciously.
And everything felt different.
Not bigger.Not better.
Just… real.
Maybe the problem isn’t that life is fast.
Maybe it’s that we never learned how to slow down.
So ask yourself—
Where in your day are you rushing, even when you don’t need to?
